Zambien's Book

Prologue
The calm before the Storm
The air was cool and there was a sweetness that seemed to just feel the air. A couple walking together along a small worn path. His broad strong arms seemed to promote a sense of peace between the two. His hair was a golden blonde color with a few stray auburn browns in the mix. While she was a slender strawberry blond with blue eyes, and rosy cheeks. The two hand in hand with each other seeming in an almost innocent bliss. The two hand in hand sharing sweet nothings and basically the perfect couple.
Though, unknown to them, peace would only last so long as the two of them breathed. In total it would only last to the count of ten.
One
There was a twig snap somewhere off to the side of the two of them. Instantly the large man protectively got between her and the noise. Both seemed to hold their breath in anticipation of what was to come at them at any moment.
Two
The moment of silence was broken as some large black beast lept forward with a lion like roar. Coming down on the large man. The man had no time to fully comprehend what was happening as he pushed his wife to the side in an attempt to save her. In doing so the thing took the man’s raised arm, the one he’d raised in defence, into it’s jaw and it’s weight dragged him to the ground.
Three
The woman staggered to her feet as her husband yelled at her to run trying to fight off the beast as he told her to do so. Only instead she turned to come face to face with a large man with dark pitch black hair and what seemed to be glowing red eyes.
Four
Seeing his wife in danger the man wrestled to get the beast from above him to below him. In doing so blood dripped down his arm until he slammed the beasts head against a rock on the hard ground. When the beast yelped and yowled in pain falling silent with it’s bloody death.
Five
The woman began to back away from the man turning to run but he grabbed hold of her arm in his pulling her back. In an effort to get aid she screamed out for help at the same moment the creature yowled it’s final cries..
Six
The man was on his feet moving towards the two in a protective way, in an attempt to protect his wife from the devilish fiend.
Seven
The man moved the woman already seeing the man approach he moves a hand lifting a dagger from his belt shifting it. As he did the point went up and the knife blade went into the man’s abdomen. His eyes widening as he started to sink to the ground the man already turning away and taking hold of the woman who’d attempted to make a run for it in the moment of distraction. Though she now stood in shocked horror at her bleeding husband.
Eight
The man threw her to the ground, following after her so that she was pinned to the ground beneath him.
Nine
Being forced to watch, the husbands eyes watered as he couldn’t move or do anything to help his wife.
Ten
As promised, by the count of ten, the peaceful day ended in misery. The man rose, did up his pants, and left. Leaving the defiled woman and her dying husband lying on the once peaceful path. She moved crawling to him as he looked to her both crying as he weakly took hold of her hand.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered, holding the dagger that penetrated his abdomen still, “I should have pr-...”
Tears streaming down her own face she stroked his cheek, “Shhhh… It’s not our place to judge, you tried love… you truely tried.” She said as she watched his face pailing in color.
“I love you Kataline.” He whispered as his eyes stared up at her and he inhaled slowly skin pail eyes staring up at her a single tear escaped the side of his eye again as only her breathing and sobs could be heard.
“Zackery!” She screamed out in a sob as she hugged his corpse, though her beloved husband would never answer her again, he’d never take her in his arms on the cold winter nights and promise her hopes of a better tomorrow. For today was his last day, and Kataline would forever bare a token and reminder of the day.
